No secret to anyone who follows my blog how much I love this film. So tonight I’m taking up on the opportunity to watch it with my brother who’s yet to see it. For me, this is the version which stands out as the best compared with the swedish one (I have my reasons). If you’ve not seen it yet then make sure you check it out as soon as you can.

Also I’m putting together the ‘traveling with gear’ post ready for you all, just waiting for the arrival of something ‘new’ bag wise. Questions in the inbox have been neglected of late so if you have anything you want to ask regarding recent projects like ‘Deftones’ (again a small write up on that coming soon), or anything else; use the ask box.

Today I’ve been working in a post-house which is situated right out near Lands End in Cornwall, England. I’ve been directing more content for a small release coming out for Mind Candy which briefly gives a glimpse behind the scenes of one of their latest projects.

It’s a real blessing to be working around such talented and creative people who are all that little bit older, and have had long working relationships with such people as Jim Henson, Ridley Scott and many other world wide successes. It made me feel extremely proud though, that hidden away in Cornwall (where I’m from), there is production house doing work for companies like Disney, Mind Candy etc. I had no idea. It further proves my point that it doesn’t matter where you live, it’s all to do with the quality of the work you produce. Your goals are what matter in the long run.

I finished my day off having a ‘lemonade’ in the sun (I was driving haha) while chatting to the creative team about past, present and future projects. Tomorrow we return for a half day of b-roll shooting before I head back to my parents place to continue on some other project work. I am truly blessed to have a job which offers me such variety, even in our current tough economic times.

Work hard. Don’t stop believing. Rx

Inspiration: Closer To The Edge

I watched this about a month ago and it was one of the best documentaries I’ve seen in a long while. I’d say that it’s in the format/style of documentaries I really love the most. The vibe of it comes across as something that is from the 90’s (due to the grading), but is wholly modern in it’s approach utilising gopro cameras where possible and shooting on a number of high end 4K cinema rigs.

The characters within make the story come to life and you feel yourself routing on the racers even after you’ve already seen the film. I think if you can trick anyone into becoming a real time part of a narrative then you’ve done your job as a director extremely well. You’ve tricked someones mind into ‘not thinking about elephants’ when you’ve already said ‘don’t think about elephants’. You’ve got the viewer in the palm of your hand.

I also thought the laid back tone of Jared Leto was well suited to the pace and the feel of the entire story. Grab a coffee and watch it NOW!
